What I Learned at School Today

Avery's class had a visit by the fire department today at school, but I didn't think to ask her about it. Tonight, just before dinner, the oven timer went off. Avery was in the kitchen with Bryan and me at the time, and she said, "Mommy, hurry up and open the door!! Open the door!!! Get the key!!!" I was like, "No baby, it's time for dinner. You can't go outside and play right now." To which she politely explained to me, "But the fireman said that when the bell goes beep, beep, that I'm sposed to get out of the house." How cute is that?

Conversations with My Kids

Avery had made cards for some girls in her class at school, and the next morning, she couldn't find them....

Avery: (whining) I can't find my cards, Daddy!
Bryan: Well you have to look for them, baby.
Avery: (crying) I already did.
Bryan: Well go look again. You need to THINK of where you've been and where you might have put them down.
Avery: (hopefully) Maybe they're under the covers!! (She goes to look).
Avery: (crying, again) They're NOT THERE!!
Bryan: Avery, you have to THINK! Where did you put them, THINK!
Avery: (hysterical) I DON'T KNOOOOOOW!!!
Bryan: Well, you have to THINK!
Avery: (completely giving up) It's too HARD for little kids to think!!!

Fun @ the Fair

We had a great family outing to the Perry Fair on Thursday. It was arm band day, so the kids rode unlimited rides (worth the money because they must've done at least 40 rides each). Their favorite ones were all the little "fun houses," the Fun Slide, the flying bees and elephants, and the merry go round. Brynn, our daredevil, also loved the roller coaster and the swings. Bryan and I each got to do some rides with the girls, which was fun, but it was nice that they were able to do some just the 2 of them. Mom and Papa met up with us around 4:30, just in time for corn dogs, greasy french fries, and funnel cakes! We had a great time, and it didn't start raining on us until we were in the car on the way home!

Seeing Double

It has become apparent that Asa is VERY much like his big sister, Brynn. Remember the picture of them in the dishwasher? (see Deja Vu post on August 11). Well, just tonight I was getting the kids dressed after baths. I already had Asa in his PJ's and had left him in his room to play. I got the girls out of the tub and was with them in their room getting their PJ's on, when Avery walked into the guest bathroom. She ran back in the room and said, "Mommy, Asa's in the bathtub!" I rushed in there, and somehow, he had managed to climb back in with his pajamas on. The water was almost completely drained, but he still got pretty wet! Of course, I KNEW I'd seen this once before!!! This EXACT thing happened with Brynn once. I am posting BOTH pictures!! Looks like I'm in for alot of trouble with the two of them! The top picture is Brynn when she was 14 months old. We had a "color bath," so that's why the water was blue. Bottom one is Asa - 12 months old. I'm afraid he's doing all of Brynn's mischief about 2 months ahead of her!!

I guess I should look for this to happen too in about a year....these pics are of Brynn just 2 nights ago when she was SUPPOSED to be in the bed going to sleep! First we walked in on her, and she had pulled EVERY SINGLE book off the book shelves. We cleaned that up, had a "come to Jesus" talk with her and went back about our evening. About 30 minutes later, we walked in, and she had pulled every wipe out of the box and the floor was covered in them. What did I EVER do to deserve this? Mom kindly reminded me the other day (when Brynn messed up Asa's b-day cake) that "this is the same little girl who nearly drowned about 4 months ago." I'll take the mischief ANY day!! Thanks for the reminder, Mom!

Asa's Barnyard BBQ

I can't believe that my baby boy is ONE!! It seems like just yesterday that he was born! Anyway, we had a wonderful 1st birthday party on Saturday. We invited all of our family, and many of them were able to make it! The weather was perfect. We ate boiled peanuts, BBQ, cake, and ice cream while all 0f the kids played on our new playset (given by Granddad and Nonna to all 3 for birthday & Christmas this year). It was a lot of fun. Check out some of the pictures.

Mommy, Daddy, and the Birthday Boy

Our little farmer in front of the barn that I painted as a decoration.

Every boy looks macho on a John Deere! Well, except for boys in red gingham with horsie appliques on the front. They just look downright cute!! Sorry, buddy.

Getting a decent pic of the 3 of them is rare!

People say Asa looks like his Daddy's side of the family. Those big eyes, dark hair, and olive skin make him a "Scott baby."

This was the ADORABLE barn cake that my friend, Lisa Mayfield, made - please notice how terrible it looks on the front (the green part just below the fence). It wasn't always that way. The reason for that would be, of course, Brynn. She got into his cake and decided to "rake" the "front yard" with her fingers. I was furious!! I tried to fix it as best I could, but oh well...

Asa enjoyed his own cake and ate EVERY bit of it (with a little help from his sisters).

This galvanized tub kept him still while we opened presents.
